Charlotte is the daughter of Duchess Of Polignac and the younger half-sister of Rosalie Lamorlière.

Appearance[]

Charlotte is a beautiful young girl. She is thin, has long blond hair, and blue eyes. As she is of noble birth and upbringing, she often wears beautiful dresses.

Personality[]

Despite her young age of eleven, Charlotte is shown to be quite haughty and arrogant. She is quick to make fun of Rosalie when she questioned if she was of true noble birth and made a slip of the tongue of how she had addressed her mother. Despite this, Charlotte often expresses that she feels pressured and afraid to follow her mother's plans to befriend Marie Antoinette and her arranged marriage to Duke de Guiche.

Background[]

Plot[]

Although of a noble family, Charlotte's family is said to be heavy in debt which has caused her mother to begin a career in singing in order to pay off the debts. However, her mother betrothed her to Duke de Guiche, a noble who was also a pedophile who wanted to marry Charlotte, regardless that she is only eleven years old. Horrified and disgusted, she started to go mad, then during a party after Duke de Guiche kissed her hand, she ran to Latona fountain and washed her hand violently. Then she sees the statue of a frog, one she saw in her dream the night before, and believes it is a sign that the only way to free herself from Duke de Guiche and her mother's clutches was to commit suicide so she can be reincarnated as a commoner and be free as she believes frogs represent rebirth. She jumps off the tower of Versailles and kills herself, devastating her mother and upsetting Rosalie. She died not knowing that Rosalie is her half-sister.

Relationships[]

  • Duchess Of Polignac: Charlotte's mother. Charlotte cares deeply for her mother but often feels pressured to go through with her mother's schemes, be it befriending the queen in order to obtain more wealth or accept an arranged marriage with someone she does not love. Even though she had let her mother know of these worries and that she was aware of her mother being the mastermind in several plots to eliminate Oscar, her concerns were often brushed over as the duchess was more concerned about her daughter obtaining high status and wealth.
  • Duke de Guiche: Charlotte's husband-to-be arranged by her mother. Charlotte was well aware that the duke was a pedophile and had only wanted to marry her because she was still so young. Any time that she was around the duke, Charlotte tried to stay away from him and was highly disturbed any time that he tried to make contact with her. Her near marriage to him, as well as the pressure from her mother, is eventually what caused her to descend into madness and take her own life.
  • Rosalie Lamorlière: Her older half-sister. Charlotte went her entire life not knowing that she had an older sister. Although they had brief encounters, Charlotte was always quick to mock Rosalie and doubt that she was a real noble due to noticing her mannerisms and speech were different than those of someone raised as a noble.

Quotes[]

Trivia[]

  • In the manga she kills herself by throwing herself off the stairwell and Oscar tried to stop her, and Charlotte screams out that she will be reborn as a commoner and not marry if she chooses not to. This shows Charlotte is a firm believer in not only the afterlife but reincarnation as well.
